IT’S POPCORN DAY! DO DO DO DO DO-DO DO
Popcorn is great. It’s fantastic. Some people don’t like popcorn. They say it smells like urine. I ask them what their urine smells like, and tell them they should probably see a doctor.
Movie theater popcorn can be great, but making it at home is awesome. I use a Crate and Barrel popcorn popper. I used to go with Whirley-Pop’s classic, but they had a re-design recently that makes the spokes jam, and the spokes can’t reach the bottom well enough to stir the popcorn. You’d think they’d be on top of fixing that… Anyway, when it comes to popcorn, it’s best to share. So AK and I put together three popcorns tonight that we think you all will really like! Start with the corn.
Half cup of some Orville Reddenbacher, a teaspoon of oil. I like using chili oil on my Classico popcorn, but will use vegetable oil for other projects.
For our three styles, we went with:
- My “Classico” Popcorn. Popcorn popped with chili oil. Bit of salt, tablespoon of melted (light) butter.
- Italian Herbs and Garlic. Again, a little (light) butter just to help the seasonings stick to the corns.
- Brown Sugar & Cinnamon. 2 tbsp (light) butter with 1 tbsp brown sugar and a bit of cinnamon, melted, poured on top. Then tossed with a bit of cinnamon sugar.
It’s a good thing we had a light dinner. I think we both agreed that the Brown Sugar was the crowning achievement of the evening. Eventually it became a feud about licking the bowl. Wait a second… Isn’t there something else you need for popcorn? Oh yeah…
Anyhow… Popcorn is a big double-edged sword for those working on losing weight. It’s light and fluffy, and isn’t dense calorically. However, you tend to eat a lot if you have it around. So you really have to make sure that the hand-to-mouth motion isn’t just on autopilot or you’ll end up with an empty bowl/bucket, a very full tummy, and a pillow full of tears. Be careful out there.
Tomorrow is another Double Holiday, as we celebrate both Buttercrunch Day and Cheese Lover’s Day.
