[FHCx107] National Eggs Benedict Day/Day of the Mushroom

Mushbooms and eggs!

Finding a brunch on the weekend is like looking for a kitty at the shelter. They all look so perfect and every single one has its own stuff to offer… The only hard choice is what you’re leaving out by choosing just one. Bad analogy. Go adopt kitties, people!

Anyway, Highland Grill was my pick. The Blue Plate Restaurant Company is well known in the Twin Cities for a high caliber of restaurants. Like Parasole, they have quite the following. One of my favorite things about Highland Grill is its annual celebration of bald men, as they hold a bald guys’ day where bald guys eat free. Totally awesome.

Another reason to like the Highland Grill is serving breakfast all day. Though I’m partial to their stuffed french toast, today we had a mission:

Eggs Benedict. Gooey and creamy.

The “Hot Hash & Holly” – hashbrowns with peppers and mushrooms, with two over-easy eggs and some hollandaise sauce

Let’s give a little appreciation for mushrooms, shall we? A poem I remember from my college composition class, by Sylvia Plath:

Overnight, very
Whitely, discreetly,
Very quietly

Our toes, our noses
Take hold on the loam,
Acquire the air.

Nobody sees us,
Stops us, betrays us;
The small grains make room.

Soft fists insist on
Heaving the needles,
The leafy bedding,

Even the paving.
Our hammers, our rams,
Earless and eyeless,

Perfectly voiceless,
Widen the crannies,
Shoulder through holes. We

Diet on water,
On crumbs of shadow,
Bland-mannered, asking

Little or nothing.
So many of us!
So many of us!

We are shelves, we are
Tables, we are meek,
We are edible,

Nudgers and shovers
In spite of ourselves.
Our kind multiplies:

We shall by morning
Inherit the earth.
Our foot’s in the door.

Wait a sec, that’s really creepy.
