[FHCx140] National Devil’s Food Cake Day

It came from below!

When you shop in the cake mix aisle, you’ll see a variety of different chocolate cakes that all sound pretty much the same: Chocolate Cake Mix, Dark Chocolate Cake Mix, Premium Chocolate Cake Mix, Fudgey Chocolate Cake Mix… And you land on Devil’s Food and go, “What even is this?”

Basically, somebody thought that if the world had Angel Food, we also needed Devil’s Food. Dumb.

Angel Food is aptly named for its light appearance, texture, and flavor. It’s airy and it’s tasty, and you feel slightly more holy when you eat it – there’s a lot less of the “eating over the sink and I hate myself” with Angel Food.

Devil’s Food is just chocolate. Don’t try to fool us. There is nothing that distinguishes a Devil’s Food cake. People will try to tell you it’s about making a darker, richer, cake. No. That’s just what a chocolate cake should be. Enough rambling. The food!

Mix up a bunch o stuff. We did 1/4 cup oil instead of 1/2 cup, and Egg Beaters instead of eggs.

Yes we used a mix. We naively thought there was something special about Devil’s Food that we wouldn’t be able to recreate it.

Now all that above isn’t to say that this wasn’t great. It’s chocolate cake. Nuff said.

Tomorrow is National Quiche Lorraine Day and National Pizza Party Day!
