[FHCx295] National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day

Yet another cheesecake!

IT’S NATIONAL PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE DAY!

This time in theme with all the Fall stuff going on. You thought we got Pumpkin out of the way when we did our frappuccino but no! And even more pumpkin on the way with Halloween around the corner.

So we ran into the local Von’s and grabbed one of these. You can tell the popularity of this stuff when it’s literally the first food item you see when you walk in the store.

Pumpkiny! Cheesecakey!

Tomorrow is National Nut Day.

[FHCx288] National Dessert Day/World Egg Day

Today is two gross.

IT’S NATIONAL DESSERT DAY AND WORLD EGG DAY!

What better way to wake up than eggs AK-style? Make a couple super-runny over-easy eggs and serve on toast. Eggs around the world may be served differently, but this is SPAKhouse.

Gooooooooooooooooooooo

Ok. What to do for dessert… Well we left it up to chance actually. For SP‘s birthday, AK bought us tickets to go to a first-ever event held at St. Paul College, this thing they call their “Chef’s Dinner.” They brought the chefs from Revival and Surly, both restaurants of great repute in SPAK history, to oversee the culinary program students in creating a beautiful dinner. So we left it to them to provide us with dessert. But on the journey there, we have to share the following as well.

Oh there’s dessert! This cheesecake had mini sopapillas on top, and a fudge sauce made with cayenne pepper. SO good.

We loved it. It was super fun. We were glad to be part of it!

Tomorrow is… too much. National Cheese Curds Day, National Red Wine Day, National Mushroom Day, National Chicken Cacciatore Day, National Roast Pheasant Day. Oy.

[FHCx212] National Cheesecake Day

How many cheesecakes is this? C’mon…

IT’S NATIONAL CHEESECAKE DAY!

Some people would be happy to eat cheesecake every day. There’s not much around here that really brings the boom when it comes to cheesecake, except maybe Muddy Paws, and that’s hard to get a handle on because of the advance ordering. We have come to find that the days where we get to make stuff or go to a fabulous local place are the days we like best. That being said, cheesecake. Archer Farms.

[FHCx205] National Vanilla Ice Cream Day

Vanilla is not bland!

IT’S NATIONAL VANILLA ICE CREAM DAY!

We still can’t believe that “vanilla” frequently means “plain.” Just because it was the most popular and frequently procured ice cream flavor led to it being the basic choice. The usual.

Well we wanted to do something unusual, and of all people, Delta and American Express helped out. They came around in food trucks to multiple cities this summer (and have more to visit) to give away ice cream sandwiches to Delta SkyMiles cardholders like SP.

We stood out in the pouring rain to get our hands on these suckers. Since the Pie in the Sky was the one with the vanilla base, that was our choice! The cookie was like the texture of a french macaron and the ice cream was absolutely amazing. Creamy and smooth and melty.

Water, water, everywhere… and ice cream sandwiches!

Thanks AmEx!

Tomorrow is National Tequila Day.

[FHCx147] National Blueberry Cheesecake Day/National Cherry Dessert Day

Fruity!

IT’S NATIONAL BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE DAY AND CHERRY DESSERT DAY!

Reading through the food holidays is like listening to Bubba in Forrest Gump. You could probably make a whole calendar of cheesecake days. White Chocolate Cheesecake, Cherry Cheesecake, Blueberry Cheesecake (today), Regular Cheesecake (July 30th), Pumpkin Cheesecake (October 21st)… It’s kind of cheating, don’t you think? Like, hooray for us, I guess, eating all this cheesecake in 2016, but what happened to the slightly more creative ideas?

Regardless, we picked up an itty bitty cheesecake to share, and topped it with some cherry pie filling and some blueberries. A nice little treat without buying a whole cheesecake sampler and going to town on it.

It was as tasty as it was pretty. And we got to share it! So happy yet-another-cheesecake-day and we’ll see you at the next one.

Tomorrow is National Grape Popsicle Day!

[FHCx114] National Picnic Day/National Cherry Cheesecake Day

You thought we wouldn’t make it in time, eh?

TODAY IS (STILL) NATIONAL PICNIC DAY AND NATIONAL CHERRY CHEESECAKE DAY!

Well now it’s time for speed blogging:

Picnic. Get a basket, have it outside, eat some stuff.

So cute.

Also, cherry cheesecake! SPom made. Was tasty.

Trick is for passover to not have any “leavened” items so this is entirely crustless. Kinda cool.

[FHCx66] National Frozen Food Day/National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day/National Oreo Day

Execute order 66 for fun!

TODAY IS NATIONAL FROZEN FOOD DAY AND NATIONAL WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE DAY AND NATIONAL OREO DAY!…

…and we’re going to Manny’s for dinner tonight, too! How in the hell did this happen…

What better way for us to celebrate three holidays than to actually mash them into one super-item?

Frozen Food is one of those things where you wonder how the whole thing happened. Somebody in a cold climate said, “huh, this thing stays good when I leave it in the ice.” Meanwhile, in central Africa, someone said, “huh, my food seems to go bad really fast.” When the two finally met up, they swapped stories and the idea of frozen food was developed. Now they just had to come up with a way to freeze things without actually being stuck in a frozen wasteland. (This is especially poignant as this week in the Twin Cities we will be experiencing our first major multi-day warm-up.)

As for White Chocolate Cheesecake, it would honestly be enough for there to be cheesecake. New York Style or no, cheesecake is just fine the way it is. SP for a long time shunned the food since it made him feel kind of sick, despite being lactose not-just-tolerant-but-also-embracing. By adding white chocolate, which SP and his whole family agree shouldn’t even be called “chocolate,” you’re just making another layer of inaccessibility to today’s holiday. But if there were something that could hold it all together…

That’s where Nabisco comes in. Since they seem to be pushing their products in the form of Food Holidays, they might as well get Oreo out of the way early in the year. Arguably the greatest sandwich cookie on the planet, the Oreo is actually a knockoff of Hydrox, and not the other way around! And frankly, the Oreo could have stopped at regular and Double Stuf varieties; now there’s red velvet, or caramel apple, or whatever other gross thing that doesn’t belong in an Oreo. The true tragedy of Oreo is that Mega Stuf isn’t actually Mega Stuf.

So what did we do this morning for breakfast?
