TODAY IS NATIONAL STRAWBERRY CREAM PIE DAY AND NATIONAL DRINK BEER DAY!
Beer. Ben Franklin’s BFF. With all sorts of varieties: hoppy, malty, dark, light, etc., there’s plenty to choose from. If you’re really cool, then you get to Surly’s Brewer’s Table where you can enjoy a delicious tasting menu with beer pairings. You won’t think of beer the same way. (We did this on SP‘s birthday and it was great!)
Today we celebrated by having this Sioux City Birch Beer. It’s not beer in the traditional sense, but it sure is in the title!
Well if beer isn’t your thing, maybe dessert is?
SP‘s “contact” at Baker’s Square says that currently Strawberry Cream Pies are out because strawberries are “out of season.” This is coming from the same place that serves strawberry-rhubarb pie to octogenarians year-long. Trips to the grocery stores nearby were not fruitful (or creamful) either. So we had to make it at home!
AK mixed up some strawberry Jell-O and some vanilla pudding, and made this little pie-lets. Top with strawberry and cream and there you have it.

IT’S NATIONAL BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING DAY!
If someone could describe to use the difference between butterscotch, toffee, and caramel flavors, that’d be great. I mean, it’s all just burnt sugar and butter, right? Butterscotch is brown sugar? I suppose we could do some research but… we’ll just rely on this to make our pudding today.

IT’S NATIONAL RASPBERRY CREAM PIE DAY!
Now this one SP can handle. He and SPom used to make these yogurt/jell-o pies quite a bit back when he lived with the SParents. It’s simple and really fun and light.
Cool Whip Free is awesome. Yoplait Light Red Raspberry, and a sugar free raspberry Jell-O.
Use the whole pack of Jell-O but with only a quarter cup of boiling water. Mix it reeeeally good.
Add in the yogurt and 3/4 of the Cool Whip tub.
Normally we would use one graham cracker crust, but these looked too cute not to try.
Fill each with the goo.
Plop a raspberry on top and refrigerate for a couple hours until they’re set.
Very tasty and refreshing! Go try it for yourself. It works for lots of flavors, too. We’ve tried Strawberry, Key Lime, and a bunch of others. Really, it depends on what Jell-O you can match with a yogurt!

Yay. It’s national tapioca pudding day.
Tapioca Pudding is the food equivalent of Delaware.

The good kind of catfishing.
IT’S NATIONAL CATFISH DAY AND NATIONAL STRAWBERRY PARFAIT DAY!
This afternoon, we made a similar parfait to our last Parfait Day. Fresh strawberries are a great addition to any pudding/cream-related treat.
Some chocofudge pudding, instant and easy.
Make some layers alternating with pudding, whipped cream, and strawberries (kinda hard to see the strawberry layer). Yummy!
For catfish, we had to seek out one of our favorite local restaurants, Brasa. Here in Minnesota, we don’t get the Eastern-Asian-sized goonch catfish that are literally large enough to attack and eat water buffalo.
However, Brasa makes a fantastic fried channel catfish that you ought to try! It’s moist and flaky, and the frying is just perfect on it. Catfish flavor is very mild and they’re a terrific source of Vitamin D! (The more you know!)
It’s good to have a unique, different food holiday after a week of generic stuff like pecan sandies.

IT’S NATIONAL VANILLA PUDDING DAY!
Why is vanilla so commonly overlooked? Since when was it the “default” flavor for things? It’s an exciting flavor. Not as exciting as chocolate, mind you, but can hold its own nonetheless. We’re pretty happy with vanilla.
So we had some friends over (AK insists on calling them SPitney and SPent) and had some dinner with some pudding for dessert.
Turned out awfully yellow, didn’t it?
Hooray for a sweet treat!

TODAY IS NATIONAL CHOCOLATE PARFAIT DAY!
We weren’t sure on the official definition of a parfait, so we did our best. Some parfaits have a layer of cake, like a trifle, and others use some sort of gelatin stuff. Some use granola and berries. We went chocolate, cream, bananas. Because there’s very little that’s better than all those. And everybody loves parfait!
So let’s get to the goods.
Incredibly low calorie and still tasty!

Mousse and Squirrel?
TODAY IS NATIONAL CHOCOLATE MOUSSE DAY!
Mousse is one of those words that sounds really fun when you say it. Mouuuuuuusse. Its texture is unique as its sound. Those of you who are familiar with those gigantic Canadian mammals would be happy to find out that mousse is not made from our hooven buddies.
Chocolate is great in any form, including mousse. It’s airier than a normal pudding and makes little bubbly dances on your tongue. We opted to have some at home, and AK whipped some up using a Jell-O mix.
