Can’t get enough sundaes…
IT’S NATIONAL HOT FUDGE SUNDAE DAY!
July, a.k.a. National Ice Cream Month, powers forward with yet another ice cream celebration in the form of a sundae on a Monday. Here we spotlight hot fudge sauce in all its glory. That antipode mix of hot, molten fudge and cold, creamy ice cream is just a terrific mixture to make you feel gooey inside.
Tomorrow is Bagelfest Day and National Coffee Milkshake Day. Had enough ice cream yet?
Vanilla is not bland!
IT’S NATIONAL VANILLA ICE CREAM DAY!
We still can’t believe that “vanilla” frequently means “plain.” Just because it was the most popular and frequently procured ice cream flavor led to it being the basic choice. The usual.
Well we wanted to do something unusual, and of all people, Delta and American Express helped out. They came around in food trucks to multiple cities this summer (and have more to visit) to give away ice cream sandwiches to Delta SkyMiles cardholders like SP.

We stood out in the pouring rain to get our hands on these suckers. Since the Pie in the Sky was the one with the vanilla base, that was our choice! The cookie was like the texture of a french macaron and the ice cream was absolutely amazing. Creamy and smooth and melty.
Water, water, everywhere… and ice cream sandwiches!
Tomorrow is National Tequila Day.
SO MUCH ICE CREAM!
IT’S NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY, SUNDAE SUNDAY, AND NATIONAL PEACH ICE CREAM DAY!
National Ice Cream Day/Sundae Sunday falls on the third Sunday in July (which is Ice Cream Month) and it just so happens that July 17th is also Peach Ice Cream Day. Sometimes these Xth-Zday-of-the-month line up well with our food holiday experience. This is a good example!
We recently had Strawberry Sundaes, which were great, and we are fans of pretty much any kind of ice cream. But let it be known that peach ice cream is significantly harder to find than strawberry. Maybe it’s because we live in Minnesota…
Sorbet isn’t really ice cream. We did what we could.
Tomorrow is National Caviar Day! Bleh!
TODAY IS NATIONAL STRAWBERRY SUNDAE DAY AND NATIONAL MACARONI DAY!
In Japan, today is Tanabata, the Star Festival. Basically, a galactic farmer is separated from his love, a cosmic weaving princess, and they get to cross the Milky Way once a year (today) to meet. How sweet, right? Well, what would two East Asian people have on a date? Probably Strawberry Sundaes and Macaroni and Cheese.
Our Mac ‘n Chee came from our trip to Revival yesterday. We got it to go at the end of our meal so we could enjoy it today. We love how peppery and real cheesy it is. Normally when served at the restaurant, it comes in a little crock with that golden brown on top that makes your heart melt.
A nice small portion for us to share today.
After our dinner, before we went to see Swiss Army Man, we had our strawberry sundaes built from these very cute Haagen-Dazs minis.
It’s a little less than half a cup of ice cream. Helps to keep the portion manageable.
A heart for extra love.
Tomorrow is National Chocolate with Almonds Day and National Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Omelette Day.
With the conclusion of this blog post, we are officially halfway through the year of the Food Holiday Challenge! Can you even believe it’s been 26 weeks already?
TODAY IS NATIONAL CREATIVE ICE CREAM FLAVOR DAY AND NATIONAL GINGERSNAP DAY!
Gingersnap would not be that creative of an ice cream flavor, so we didn’t mash this into one holiday. And since we’re busy this weekend with CONvergence, we didn’t make time to make a batch of gingersnaps. Honestly, these cookies would be better off coming as a holiday in the winter days.
A cute little 1.5″ cookie.
But here’s the fun part. We spent a while looking for the best creative ice cream flavor over the last week. Our first thought was to go to one of our favorite ice cream parlors, the Grand Ole Creamery, and see what they had. And though they have flavors like Taro (what?) we had to drop everything when we saw these at our favorite Asian grocer, United Noodles:
Let’s do this!
The black sesame flavor was very toasty. It almost had a coffee flavor, but not too overpowering. Not bad! Very creative.
The red bean flavor was really good. If you’ve ever had mochi, it has that mildly sweet flavor that builds as you eat it. AK says it has hints of watermelon. A really interesting ice cream flavor that we might actually get again!
Tomorrow is National Anisette Day.
