[FHCx316] National Sundae Day

Sundaey

IT’S NATIONAL SUNDAE DAY!

Any kind you want. It doesn’t have to be hot fudge or strawberry. Just ice cream and toppings. Usually whipped cream, some sort of sauce or syrup, maybe some fruit. Sprinkles? If you got ’em.

[FHCx238] National Banana Split Day/National Whiskey Sour Day

Banananananana

TODAY IS NATIONAL BANANA SPLIT DAY AND NATIONAL WHISKEY SOUR DAY!

We don’t really get whiskey sour. Whiskey with a little bit of lemon and sugar just makes it taste more like whiskey. Eh. We were out to dinner with SParents at Pezzo and so we could give the rest of it to them!

We did get to cleanse our palette with some stuff we love, though: ice cream! Ice cream summer never ends! Well, it kind of does pretty soon, but we’re in denial!

Invented in 1904, the banana split takes nature’s best fruit and pairs it with the best cold dessert. Here is the banana split AK made in its most beautiousness.

[FHCx207] National Hot Fudge Sundae Day

Can’t get enough sundaes…

IT’S NATIONAL HOT FUDGE SUNDAE DAY!

July, a.k.a. National Ice Cream Month, powers forward with yet another ice cream celebration in the form of a sundae on a Monday. Here we spotlight hot fudge sauce in all its glory. That antipode mix of hot, molten fudge and cold, creamy ice cream is just a terrific mixture to make you feel gooey inside.

Yummy!

Tomorrow is Bagelfest Day and National Coffee Milkshake Day. Had enough ice cream yet?

[FHCx199] National Ice Cream Day/Sundae Sunday/National Peach Ice Cream Day

SO MUCH ICE CREAM!

IT’S NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY, SUNDAE SUNDAY, AND NATIONAL PEACH ICE CREAM DAY!

National Ice Cream Day/Sundae Sunday falls on the third Sunday in July (which is Ice Cream Month) and it just so happens that July 17th is also Peach Ice Cream Day. Sometimes these Xth-Zday-of-the-month line up well with our food holiday experience. This is a good example!

We recently had Strawberry Sundaes, which were great, and we are fans of pretty much any kind of ice cream. But let it be known that peach ice cream is significantly harder to find than strawberry. Maybe it’s because we live in Minnesota…

Sorbet isn’t really ice cream. We did what we could.

[FHCx189] National Strawberry Sundae Day/National Macaroni Day

TODAY IS NATIONAL STRAWBERRY SUNDAE DAY AND NATIONAL MACARONI DAY!

In Japan, today is Tanabata, the Star Festival. Basically, a galactic farmer is separated from his love, a cosmic weaving princess, and they get to cross the Milky Way once a year (today) to meet. How sweet, right? Well, what would two East Asian people have on a date? Probably Strawberry Sundaes and Macaroni and Cheese.

Our Mac ‘n Chee came from our trip to Revival yesterday. We got it to go at the end of our meal so we could enjoy it today. We love how peppery and real cheesy it is. Normally when served at the restaurant, it comes in a little crock with that golden brown on top that makes your heart melt.

A nice small portion for us to share today.

After our dinner, before we went to see Swiss Army Man, we had our strawberry sundaes built from these very cute Haagen-Dazs minis.

2016-07-07 18.00.34

It’s a little less than half a cup of ice cream. Helps to keep the portion manageable.

A heart for extra love.

Tomorrow is National Chocolate with Almonds Day and National Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Omelette Day.

The time we went to Buca di Beppo for a free dessert and instead ate $16 in bruschetta plus some whipped cream

So, I (AK) get a whole crap ton and a half of promotional e-mails. It all started 3 or 4 years ago when I went on a certifiable spree, adding myself to eClubs and mailing lists left and right. I did this in hopes that, come my birthday month, I’d get a bunch of free stuff. Most of the time it yields a bazillion e-mails I don’t need… but SOMETIMES…

COUPONNNNNNNNNS!

I love me some coupons. Recently I received a (seemingly occasionless? Happy June 30th to me, I guess) coupon from Buca di Beppo for a FREE/NO PURCHASE NECESSARY COLOSSAL BROWNIE SUNDAE. Being of the opinion that “no,” “purchase,” and “necessary” are some of the most beautiful words in the English language, I informed SP right away of this generous electronic gift that had been bestowed upon me, and we made our plans to not-purchase some dessert.

We were joking about how we should demand satisfaction if the sundae wasn't as big as the picture but IT WASN'T FAR OFF

We felt guilty about not having any cash to tip with (plus we were still kinda hungry after a smallish dinner) so we ordered some bruschetta, and holy crap did we learn that all good things come in giant martini glasses.

It turns out that entire thing is only 14 WW points, so our guilt was somewhat minimized. But then… then came the Colossal Brownie Sundae.

Actual size.

Actual size.

Weighing in at… wait for it…

64 WEIGHT WATCHERS POINTS.

So, we could safely eat about a sixth of it each. Which, in my case, turned out to be mostly whipped cream.

Those leftovers though.

All up in our freezer, now.
