IT’S NATIONAL LEMON CREAM PIE DAY!
We can’t keep eating pie all week. We have to temper ourselves a little bit. So we bought this thing that says Lemon Cream Pie on it.
Citrusy desserts aren’t always the best, but this was a pretty good treat.
Tomorrow is National Mousse Day!
TODAY IS NATIONAL LEFTOVERS DAY, NATIONAL MAIZE DAY, AND NATIONAL PARFAIT DAY!
We wanted to do something different from the last couple times we did parfaits. This time we picked up a fruit and yogurt parfait from McDonald’s.
Tastes like fruit and yogurt. NEXT!
Maize. We could have done something elaborate with maize, but instead opted for the cheap stuff: some tasty Xochitl chips. Says “maiz” right on the bag.
Lastly, our dinner came courtesy of last night’s Thanksgiving feast. Of course we went home with these:
There was just so much good that we had to keep eating it. Frankly, we would’ve consumed the calories anyway, it’s just a matter of having them spread out over two days instead of one. That’s being responsible, right?
SPom’s stuffing, sweet potato banana mash, blueberry wild rice, and SPad’s beautiful turkey.
Who doesn’t like leftovers anyway?
Tomorrow is National Cake Day!
IT’S NATIONAL RASPBERRY CREAM PIE DAY!
Now this one SP can handle. He and SPom used to make these yogurt/jell-o pies quite a bit back when he lived with the SParents. It’s simple and really fun and light.
Cool Whip Free is awesome. Yoplait Light Red Raspberry, and a sugar free raspberry Jell-O.
Use the whole pack of Jell-O but with only a quarter cup of boiling water. Mix it reeeeally good.
Add in the yogurt and 3/4 of the Cool Whip tub.
Normally we would use one graham cracker crust, but these looked too cute not to try.
Fill each with the goo.
Plop a raspberry on top and refrigerate for a couple hours until they’re set.
Very tasty and refreshing! Go try it for yourself. It works for lots of flavors, too. We’ve tried Strawberry, Key Lime, and a bunch of others. Really, it depends on what Jell-O you can match with a yogurt!
Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day!
We don’t agree with Ron Swanson on this one. We are excited that
TODAY IS NATIONAL FROZEN YOGURT DAY!
I (SP) still remember a conversation I had with a friend in college. A place had just opened in the loop called “FroYo” and he thought it was the most genius business plan ever: Get a handful of minimum-wage college kids to sit around and be cashiers in what was an entirely self-serve food place. The only real cost is maintenance of the machines and the supplies for the yogurt, but you would really only need one employee at a time to handle the whole place.
Little did we know, there was about to be an explosion of self-serve frozen yogurt joints around the country as the fad turned frozen yogurt into a saturated market. The days of TCBY and Monkey Paw frozen yogurt were over, and a new age was ushered in.
During that time, one of our family-favorite yogurt places opened up – Menchie’s. I value a few things the most out of a froyo haven, and Menchie’s delivers:
- Creaminess. I hate icy, chunky frozen “yogurt.” It should be smooth and milky.
- Low calorie options. While “non fat” frozen yogurt is the centerpiece of most places, having no added sugar means you actually get an awesome yogurty flavor when you want it.
- Bananas as a topping. I mean seriously, how hard is it? Places like YogurtLab have told us to our faces that bananas go bad when they sit out and it’s just not feasible. Cheezus criminy.
Anyway, the yogurt!
Method 1: Side-by-side swirls
Method 2: Geological Strata
WEIGH IN DAY RESULTS!
SP: -1.4 pounds, total lost: 89.4
AK: +3.2 pounds, total lost: 25.4
AK starts Minnesota Brass this week, so the offset of the activity is proving to be a challenge. Here’s hoping for a solid week coming up.
Tomorrow is Fettucini Alfredo Day!
